ALOHA OE
(Queen Liliuokalani)
I have stumbled across different lyric versions in my
research. The ones I sang I found in a historical book - an
actual photo of a note scribbled in the queen's own handwriting - so I
am assuming she would approve. Certain hawaiian symbols are not available
in most computer fonts.

Ha`aheo ka ua ina pali,
Aloha Oe,
O ka halia`loha i hiki mai,
(Chorus) Mao popo ku`u ike i ka nani,
(Chorus)
|
Proudly swept the rain cloud by the cliffs,
Farewell to thee,
Thus sweet memories come back to me,
(Chorus) I have seen and watched thy loveliness,
My two cents worth: Liliuokalani, She wrote this song and from behind her prison wall, she heard the footsteps in the hall - her captors pacing out the fall. But never did she fail to give the gift of song that words should live beyond her time, a sad goodbye, Farewell Hawai'i! |
Is there an angel waiting for wings?
Someone looking for a change?
Are there any leftovers in the bag of old souls?
There must be one who's dying to jump,
well I've got news for you.
You're gonna land in the lap of beauty.
We need you down here,
We need you now.
Mother please send one down for Jane. (Mother Nature
of course)
We need you down here,
We need you now.
Please send one down for Jane.
And were you here before was there anything,
That you left unsaid?
Do you want another chance to live again?
Is heaven's menu getting tired?
Is it all it's cracked up to be?
How about a taste of reality!
(Chorus)
Everybody! (Angels go nuts)
(Chorus)
P.S. They don't really care what colour or what
size or what shape...
They just want someone to take care of.
I know it looks kind of bad down here sometimes, you
know but we're getting better and better all the time. (Hello?)
Is that you?
Are you here?
Anyway, I can't wait to meet you.
I gotta go now.
Amen.
